Boxer dogs
Talk to me.

Me and my daughter are desperate for a boxer puppy, however my wife is allergic to dander and isn't keen on entertaining the idea. Google throws up different theories on allergies, but as a short haired hound, I'm guessing they don't shed much?

I know they need a shit load of exercise which isn't an issue, is there anything else we need to be aware of? Is it true females slobber less than males?

Oh, and I'll call it BONZO, so this is still West Ham related, gank.

Daft as a brush was the one my uncle had

Brilliant with kids. My sisters late friend had one and he was lovely but huge. Even as a six month old pup he was almost as tall as me on his hind legs. Was very slobbery though.

Used to see loads in the 1990's but they seem to have fallen out of favour since then.

Had a Red Boxer "Bobby" best breed you could go for, excellent family dog, not the brightest though.. but that is the beauty of a boxer, you wont regret it

Re: Boxer dogs
I've had a Boxer Dalmatian cross for three years he was a rescue dog that we took as a pup been in two homes both apartments and beaten by one of its owners My black lab never really took to him as he was an old boy and the new boy on the block was probably too boisterous for him, he's a beautiful dog and as loyal as they come which is a trait of boxers

All I'd say is if your getting a boxer pay a bit more and go with a reputable breeder as some have bad genetics that are passed on through certain breeders

You'll never regret it

Re: Boxer dogs
I've never owned one but love them to bits. When I was a barman at my local in my student days, Jake the resident Boxer dog used to come downstairs after hours. He was completely mental but one of the nicest dogs I've known.

Strangely, one of the only dogs my violently insecure Airedale/Border Collie cross didn't mind was the Boxer round the corner.

Get one!

Re: Boxer dogs
When I used to take my dog to the park the local boxer seemed to be obsessed with wiping it's drool all over its back. Used to come home stinking of slobber.

They are nice dogs though.

I have the same problem Buster, if you have a heavily carpeted house forget it, wood floors is ok as long as you keep it mopped.

We have two labs and one sheds like fuck but we dont have much carpet in the house as we live in a hot climate

Buster 10:27 Thu Jul 21
Re: Boxer dogs
Wood floors throughout so that's not a problem.

Feel for your wife, breed doesn't make any difference. My brother had one. Suffragette City.

Re: Boxer dogs
Having short hair won't prevent allergies.

Best bet is to get a dog with curly matted hair or anything crossed with a Poodle - Is there a Boxpoo out there ??!

Won't an antihistamine just sort it out?

Re: Boxer dogs
Aren't they quite prone to tumours and don't generally live that long? Or are these the ones from shit breeders?

Poodles are lovely dogs and not gay at all, plus they don't shed

I'd rather get bummed than take a poodle down the pub.

Hahaha, you will get BUMMED if you take your Poodle to the pub

Re: Boxer dogs
Had two, absolutely lovely but stupid. Definitely need to wipe down everywhere they go, the amount of slobber is incredible. Breed can get pidgeon chested so don't live as long as retrievers for example. And they still molt a lot, but my bro was allergic and dealt with it.

Re: Boxer dogs
Boxers are brilliant dogs. Brave, strong (not so intelligent), incredibly athletic and very protective. Good with kids but can be boisterous (bouncy).

Best dogs to get if you want to avoid moulting or allergy is a standard poodle.

The standard poodle is nothing like the toy poodles you see on a model's arm. They were bred originally as a French fighting dog. Incredibly strong, calm, brave and very few health problems.

The only downside is they have quite small jaws/teeth, which limited their fighting capabilities. But they were French?
